I'm thinking of doing it and would love to see some pics of where people have mounted their 2-stroke reservoirs. Also what have people used as a reservoir?
I saw a write-up from a 1st gen install and that person used a motorcycle/scooter oil reservoir. They mounted it to the passenger shock tower. Mine is a turbo application and I'd prefer to mount it further away from the heat.
What I'm thinking would work is mounting the reservoir between the radiator support and the bumper support.

How much higher than the OMP does the tank need to be to ensure proper gravity feed? Does the RA adapter call out a spec for that?
I was thinking of getting the RA OMP adapter for my '89T2, and since my subzero start assist system is disabled, the thought was to use the subzero tank in its stock location to become the premix tank. Not sure how practical that would be, as it doesn't have much capacity and would be a bit awkward to fill, given its location.

I haven't seen anything about how high it needs to be for gravity feed. Educated guess tells me that the less vertical the tubing/hose is the less affect gravity will have. Following that same logic I'm also guessing that the reservoir would need to be higher than if it were a direct vertical drop.
TTT has his mounted where the air pump bracket would be..I forget if he has an RE or an REW. I'm gonna guess at most that's less than a foot. BUT that is also a direct drop down to the MOP. Tubing that is travelling a more horizontal path I'm guessing would need to be higher.

I think at times it's soaking the engine with oil. I run the OMP through the MoTeC with a map that was reverse engineered by a MoTeC and rotary guru to match the factory OMP. I run Idemitsu premix and toss 1/4 oz/gal of gas in the tank as well just for good measure. This is just my thought, my feelings, and as I said, I feel as if I am saturating the engine sometimes but if you think about the two cons of both systems -
Factory MOP - not very good despersion. Anyone who has torn down an engine that only ran the MOP will know what I mean
Pre-mix only - ZERO lube on decel............ take that as you will. Phil and I actually had an interesting conversation on this a while back.
Anyway, by both pre-mixing and running the MOP, I fell I get the best of both worlds. It's 2x the PITA, but whatever
I have an RE, I have REW twins, I also have the REW waterpump housing. Jeff is correct, I mounted mine where the air-pump once lived. I also built my own tank out of AL with a really sexy pop-up gas tank fill from a motorcycle supply house.
RA/Sohn calls for it to be 6" (IIRC) above the OMP. And it needs to be gravity fed obviously. I would keep the length as short as possible however Hailers once did a test by putting his resevoir on the ground and watched the pump self prime under vacuum. I would have to say that the output of the pump from a vac vs a slight pressure would be very different and that 6" of pressure mimics the small amount of "pressure" that the pump sees from the front cover.

I did this and I tried to use a Mikuni pump but I had to use the stock OMP because my braided lines wouldn't work with the Mikuni the way I have the lines routed, which I believe is in the stock way too haha. In the last pic where the lines are running right next to each other and attach to the OMP, on the Mikuni there isn't as much room for them to fit right next to each other like that, but I believe if I rerouted the lines it might work.
I got a tank from US Plastics, drilled a hole in the bottom rear of the tank and used ss braided line. I just mounted it where the battery would normally be. It's a little farther away than I'd like it to be but it's on the cooler side of the engine bay. I wanted to use a plastic tank so I could easily check the oil level. I used SS braided line because I figured it would hold up better than rubber hose or the transparent plastic line, and because I wanted fittings for the ends instead of just clamping the hose down over a nipple.

One thing to think about with tank placement is height. I spoke with RWS and they assured me that the oil cannot gravity feed though the pump, through the injectors and into thr engine. However, today I started my car for the first time in a month and she smoked for a few minutes like an o/b being taken out of storage. I've never checked the level before and after but I suspect that the oil is slowly seeping into the engine.

How much modification needs to be done to run this adapter with the stock twins...?
I've heard it wont fit, but since TTT is running both, I thought I would ask.

TTT you mind posting up pics of your reservoir mounted where the air pump would be? Granted yours is an RE and mine is a S5 13B, but with my engine in pieces I'm having trouble picturing how much space I'd have to play with if I copied your location.
I'd love to see the dimensions of your reservoir and use that for ideas.

Just talked to a friend who's willing to weld me an aluminum reservoir. I'm thinking if he made a lid with a dipstick I can check 2 stroke levels. I'm not using an airpump. Perhaps he can make a bracket to bolt to the airpump location.

Thats where mine is on my engine. It works fine and after having it for a couple years. The motor decided to blow a rear coolant seal. So I rebuilt it of course. The rear rotor was of course "steam" cleaned, but the front rotor was very clean since I use 2 stroke oil in the resivour. It had a light coating of carbon on the rotor similar to a piston engines pistons. Instead of the caked on carbon of rotaries that eat 4 stroke oil. Just my two cents.
