I received a letter from Mazda North America today stating that they are extending the warranty on 2004-2009 RX-8s to 8 years or 100K miles on the clutch pedal assembly. Also included was a reimbursement form to be filled out in the event that the clutch pedal has already been replaced. Better late than never!

That's gonna be good news to a lot of people. I guess Mazda has to get hundreds of complaints before they realize the car has an inherent problem in the design.

Of course they do this AFTER I had to buy a new one (which I had Charles reinforce), and after I sold the car.

They owe me $100.

got my letter yesterday. I'm not really sure how much i'll really get back though. Mine went out at 99,558 miles. When my assembly gave out it blew out my master cylinder as well, so in my mind I should be reimbursed for my master cylinder as well since it was a direct result of the broken clutch assembly. It ended up being about a $560 dollar bill for the assembly, labor, and master cylinder.

The clutch pedal assembly is a POS stamped metal with weak spot welds. These welds break and cause the pedal to flex, making it difficult if not impossible to engage the clutch.

Mine had it when I bought the car, the dealer thought the trans was fubar.

when i purchased my rx8 back in august i knew it had a weak clutch pedal and used that in part of my negotiations in price. then bought a new pedal for 80. just got the notice in the mail, going to take pics of the old broken pedal and send in a copy of the receipet for the new one this week.

I'm having problems with mine. It broke down on me and its currently park unable to move. Dealership wants to charge me $1,500 to replace. Any pointers. Also was told told by my friends to go to a stage 2 clutch instead. Please someone help me...

Are you having a problem with the peddle, or your actual clutch. The peddle bracket is covered by Mazda, the actual clutch is your own responsibility. This thread is about the peddle assembly recall from Mazda.

One of the best clutches you can get for the 8 is the "Mazda Speed" Exedy clutch.
