View Full Version : Any interest in developing an individual coil ignition system?

I think an individual coil ignition sustem (using GM or other readily availabe coils) would be an awesome product to add to your already bad ass line-up.

is there enough room to move all 4 coils to the frame rail, like your relocation bracket you already offer?

If you're serious about this, wait a few weeks until after I test a few coils. My gut tells me some of the GM coils are pretty weak and there are alot of better choices out there.

I'm serious, I'm trying to convert as much expendable components over to domestic/ more readily available parts.

as these cars get older, they will be harder to find good quality parts for locally.

My car has four Jabcobs C4 coils mounted on the finder side below the 929 brake master cyl .

I went with 2 GM 4 prong HEI ignitors and 2 Ford TFI coils for my leading ignition and dropped the trailing. Works great.

Yes thats exactly why I went with the GM HEIs and the Ford TFI coils. I can
replace those from any AutoZombie shop in the world if I have a failure.

How often do coils fail? I would rather replace the coils to get a stronger spark, not becuase they have a high failure rate.

The C4 coils are rated at 65 k volts plus I am using an AEM twin fire ignition module to fire them .

We've been using Electromotive TEC EFI systems & their Direct Ignition systems since early '80's (on all 3 generations of RX7's plus 3-rotor engines) with great results- cranktriggered ignition for extreme accuracy & "matched" individual coils,
