SWEET!!! lol

so you got a shinka edition? pretty sure that paint (dark cherry mica) only came on shinka's

I don't think it is a Shinka.

I think it looks like it is that color due to the background colors reflecting off the paint.

Which is good.....that means its shiny!

Thats not a Shinka... it doesnt look like black cherry either (which was only an option on shinka's at first).

No chrome wheels and no b-pillar, no wing, those are dead give aways its not a shinka. The early shinkas were also automatic.

Nice buy... will we see it at DGRRX?

Yes, that is the plan at least!

Hopefully with a few upgrades.

Since I need to replace the clutch, I will most likely put in new clutch hydros, an SS line. I hope to also get some chassis braces while it is in the air. Otherwise I would like to get the RB gauge kit and an Accessport.

Later on I hope to get a catback and maybe an intake. No real big performance plans until it needs an engine.

I got this sooooooo cheap. It needs a few little cosmetic things. I think I am going to be screwed on the steering wheel. It has the tan/black leather interior, and the tan sides of the steering wheel are wearing. It is going to be impossible to find one, so I might just put an all black one on for now.

Why not just refinish the wheel? Try leatherrenew.com. Nice looking car, by the way. And you didn't sell out - you moved up!

Congrats DJ, sorry to hear about the FC. I would still keep her though and slowly put her to where you want her. Spend less upgrading the 8 becuase she is a daily, and keep working on the 7. I've owned my Cherokee for 9 years now. For the first 7 years the only thing that I did was replace the stocker headunit. Then the cat brick broke loose, then the muffler started to leak, then the suspension started sagging. After the lift it alllllll went downhill and now I can't stop toying with her. Plans are now to re-do the axles with some ARB's, build some rock sliders, build front and rear bumpers, winchs blah blah blah. I need to stop upp'ing my daily, finish the FC (again) so I can start on the FD.

Yes, that is the plan at least!

I would, without a doubt, add a lightweight flywheel to that list as well. Free up a bunch of ponies.

mehhhhh, I'm not sure about that. I like the 8, handles incredibly, but I wouldn't say it's an upgrade from a few FC's.

Thanks man. This isn't a daily. Its the new 'toy' :D

My old Grand Cherokee is the daily mule, but I do plan to drive this as much as possible. I really do need to sell the FC. I just don't have the space/time/money to keep more than one rotary around.

I thought this was funny, how things have changed in one year!
2009:
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4x4
2007 Mazda 3 Hatch
1992 Mazda Miata
1990 Mazda RX-7
1989 Mazda 626 Turbo

2010:
1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee
2007 Volvo S80 V8 AWD
2004 Mazda RX-8 GT

Also, every car I owned in 2009 was white, now I have a Titanium Gray, and Black car.

Weird. I'm getting old :(

Take the steering wheel to a good upholstery shop - they should be able to put some new leather on there for cheaper than buying a new steering wheel.

That's nothing. After you refinish those portions of the wheel they will look virtually like new. Much easier than reskinning the wheel, and the practice you get with the system will prepare you for eventually refinishing the seats when that becomes necessary.

Not bad at all dj, so will a car seat fit in the back of a 8 always wondered? And sweet now you and melinda can hang out haha

djmtsu
02-01-2010, 08:00 AM
A car seat will fit in the back seat. When it is rear facing, the front seat needs to be forward a bit, but that is not a biggie. The Jeep is still the family truckster!

02-01-2010, 02:13 PM
Yea, I've had my car since my daughter was 2 or 3... they fit just fine. Booster seats can get a little wonky because of the bucket seats, but if you want an exact fit, Porsche makes a bucket seat friendly booster seat.

BITE YOUR TONGUE FEROCIOUS. One thing that people forget about Jeeps is that they will crush most vehicles........ literally.

As far as SUVs/DDs go, there is nothing better than a Jeep. <- that's a period, meaning end of statement, nothing more needs discussion.

..........

In contrast to my above statements I am actually fond of the 99-04 and previous jeeps, especially my '96 4.0L that I had before my sister crushed the back of it flat up to the B-pillar! I just enjoy giving djmtsu shit and will continue to do so un til further notice <----- (Missed period, which is the start of a life-long discussion)

Being a TJ owner I resent that! Chrysler simply owns their trademark, for now......

Funny how so many 7 owners also have Jeeps. Its something I've noticed time and time again over the years...

Damn. how did she do that? My mother has a '96 Cherokee as well, 185k runs like a top. When it had 13k on her I got hit by an F-250 superduty moving @ 60mph. I was stopped. 4 car pile up. The front wheels wouldn't turn becuase the fenders were touching them, the nose lifted so high I hit the explorer infront of me about a foot over the bumper and when the Jeep came down ripped his rear bumper clean off, 3/4 doors wedged shut. Visible buckle in the roof, rear glass popped out etc etc. Friends of the family own a body shop and they originally totalled the truck out for $15k. I had a little conversation with them stating that 6 months earlier we bought the truck new for 18k cash (Dealer invoice was $18,800 plus deliver, but it was in Oct '96 right before the new '97 reskinned ones came out so they were deperate to move the thing) and begged them to straighten it. Reason being we would be out of pocket another $7k to buy a new '97. They actually did and 13 years and 170k later, still runs and looks awesome.

I just enjoy giving djmtsu shit and will continue to do so un til further notice <----- (Missed period, which is the start of a life-long discussion)

It's to balance the equation of reliability. We own rotaries, heirgo we must own something utterly reliable, hence Jeeps. It's also funny how we all own 4.0L I-6's, ASSuming DJ didn't go with the V8 in his Grand.

ASSuming DJ didn't go with the V8 in his Grand.

Hell F'n NO!!!!

4.0 straight six 4x4 with Selec-Trac (Quadra Drive is fail).

We've had it for 10 yrs, and its 11 years old. Only 140K on it, and runs and looks great still.

Looking at it again, the C-Pillars made it but the roof collapsed to the B-pillars. My two sisters were in the front seats as it slid off the road, hit a concrete wall backwards, lifted the front end up in the air, and it fell back down on the passenger doors. Everybody was ok although my sister who was driving took the ambulance ride.

Just got the car today!!!

IT DOESN'T NEED A CLUTCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The clutch pedal bracket is broken, common problem. This will save me a TON of time/money.

Woot! More to come. Its raining and I'm back at work!

try Saddle soap on the leather, apply with a soft facial scrub brush, wipe clean with a damp not wet towel, and then apply a good leather conditioner like meguiers. it wont fix physical damage, but youd be suprised how much is just dirt and crud build up. And the black cherry mica paint is awesome, I have a 2005 Shinka and when its nice and clean it turns heads everywhere it goes! ps. the clutch pedal issue is a factory recall, Id talk to a dealer, I recieved a letter about it and everything.
